If you’re looking for something to do this weekend in New York City, you could do a lot worse than to visit the Danziger Projects gallery on W 23rd Street in Manhattan. There are two exhibits on display:
- Robert Frank photographs from London, Paris, Wales, and America, 1949 - 1962
- Marco Anelli, Portraits in the Presence of Marina Abramovich, with photos taken of people who sat with Abramovich for her MoMA show, The Artist Is Present
If you’re like me, and you’re not sure how attending a gallery works, turns out it’s painless. You can (usually) buy a book about the exhibit, but there’s no hard sell, and often no interaction with the gallery personnel at all. Just be respectful, and enjoy (or don’t enjoy) the art on display.
The exhibits at Danziger are remarkable, featuring about 50 photos by Robert Frank, and a small room with the photos from the Abramovich show. Highly recommended.
