It’s funny how many people talk shit about Billy Corgan. But this interview with Howard Stern is so interesting I can’t really convey it. If you’re interested in wildly dysfunctional families, music, culture, history, the psychology of bands and friends, drugs, and how every generation confronts aging, I am sure you’ll find this a great use of your time. It’s 90 minutes, so you can watch it in parts. As a diehard Pavement fan, I’ve never disliked Smashing Pumpkins (or Zwan, for that matter — I always liked that record, too), but I haven’t paid much attention to Corgan since Paz Lechantin left Zwan. But he’s really smart here, really level-headed, seems to be very honest, and talks about everything from Billy Chamberlain’s addiction to Jessica Simpson, from Courtney Love to his mother’s being institutionalized.
Still my hero. His childhood seems frightneningly similar to mine.
